MEP CAD Technician Location: Billericay, Essex Salary: £40,000 (negotiable for the right candidate) An established and growing consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced MEP CAD Technician to join its expanding Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health team. This is a varied role combining hands-on 2D MEP CAD production with responsibility for developing and improving the company's CAD systems, standards and workflows. You will work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to produce accurate technical drawings for live projects, whilst also taking ownership of templates, libraries, blocks, drawing standards and quality-control processes. The role would suit an experienced MEP CAD Technician or CAD Coordinator who enjoys both technical drawing production and improving the way CAD information is managed and delivered. MEP CAD Technician Salary & Benefits: £40,000 salary, negotiable for the right candidate Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week Opportunity to take ownership of CAD systems and standards within a growing MEP team Varied project work across mechanical, electrical and public health services Opportunity to develop CAD automation and AI-assisted workflows Exposure to future BIM/Revit development Collaborative working environment alongside experienced MEP engineers and wider consultancy teams Ongoing professional development and training MEP CAD Technician Job Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 2D MEP drawings using AutoCAD LT, whilst also helping to develop and maintain the company's CAD standards, templates, libraries, blocks and quality-control processes. You will produce mechanical, electrical and public health drawings, schematics, plant layouts, sections and details from engineer briefs, mark-ups, calculations, survey information and other project records. The role also provides the opportunity to contribute to the development of dynamic blocks, CAD libraries and practical AI and automation workflows designed to improve drawing production and quality. The role will include: Producing accurate 2D mechanical, electrical and public health drawings using AutoCAD LT Producing floor plans, plant-room layouts, schematics, elevations, sections, details and builders-work information Working from engineer briefs, mark-ups, calculations, sketches, survey records, photographs and existing drawings Developing and maintaining drawing templates, title blocks, layers, lineweights, linetypes, text and dimension styles and standard notes Creating, editing, testing and maintaining static and dynamic AutoCAD blocks Developing blocks using attributes, visibility states, parameters and actions Developing and maintaining controlled CAD libraries for recurring MEP components and details Supporting the development and improvement of CAD standards and drawing-production workflows Reviewing existing CAD content and bringing suitable information into controlled company standards Supporting consistent conventions for equipment references, drawing tags, legends and schedules Coordinating drawing information with architectural, structural, civil and other project information where required Identifying apparent clashes, inconsistencies or missing information and raising these with the responsible engineer Incorporating technical review comments and maintaining clear revision histories Preparing drawing files and PDFs for controlled issue Carrying out drawing quality checks covering layers, blocks, tags, legends, references, revisions and presentation Supporting the development of automated checks to identify drawing and document issues Exploring practical applications of AI, automation and emerging digital tools within CAD and project delivery Identifying repetitive processes that could be improved through automation Working closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, surveyors, project managers and other consultancy staff Providing occasional support with site measurements, photographs, Matterport capture and existing-building CAD records where required MEP CAD Technician Job Requirements: Strong practical experience using AutoCAD, ideally including AutoCAD LT, within an MEP, building services, engineering or construction environment Demonstrable experience creating, editing, testing and maintaining standard and dynamic AutoCAD blocks Good understanding of block attributes, visibility states, parameters and actions Experience developing or maintaining CAD standards, templates, layers, symbols, blocks and CAD libraries Strong understanding of external references, coordinates, layouts, layer states, annotations, dimensions, plotting, file management and revision control Experience producing coordinated technical floor plans, layouts, schematics, sections and details from engineer mark-ups or design information Good understanding of mechanical, electrical and/or public health building services Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and identify inconsistencies, missing information or coordination issues Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to drawing quality and presentation Ability to take ownership of CAD responsibilities and work to agreed deadlines A systems-minded approach, with the ability to turn recurring requirements into reusable standards, libraries, blocks and QA processes Genuine interest in AI, automation and emerging digital tools and their practical application to CAD and project delivery Good general IT skills, including Microsoft Office and digital document-management systems Relevant technical qualification in CAD, engineering, building services, construction or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience Full UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for occasional site attendance Desirable: Experience leading the development of CAD libraries, standards, templates or drawing-production workflows Experience using AutoLISP, scripts, workflow automation or other digital methods to improve CAD production Experience with data extraction, structured schedules or equipment information Experience producing MEP drawings within a consultancy environment Experience working with point-cloud, Matterport or 3D survey information Experience across education, healthcare or public-sector estate projects Revit/BIM experience or an understanding of BIM processes Relevant Level 3, HNC, HND, apprenticeship or equivalent CAD, engineering, building services or construction qualification Bennett and Game Recruitment are a multi-disciplined technical recruitment agency based in Chichester, West Sussex operating across the UK with specialist teams covering a range of industries.
