Our client is a Civil Engineering Contractor based in West Sussex are looking for a Plant Fitter to join their successful and expanding team. The Plant Fitter / Vehicle Mechanic will be responsible for the safe & cost-effective repair & maintenance of plant & equipment, without harm to people, the environment & targeting zero defects. The Plant Fitter / Vehicle Mechanic will be based out of the workshop at Horsham but will be required to attend site breakdowns as required. Plant Mechanic Job Overview Ensure all site safety & environmental rules are followed including ensuring that appropriate PPE is worn, following safe systems of work and reporting any incidents. Ensuring that plant has been inspected, tested & tagged prior to delivery to site. Dealing with any scheduled repairs as well as unscheduled repairs and checks as they arise. Diagnose and apply the relevant mechanical and electrical repairs whilst ensuring compliance with any relevant risk assessments and method statements. Repair or replace damaged or worn parts and test equipment to ensure any repairs are adequate. Carry out fabrication, welding and gas cutting as required. Carry out routine servicing of vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring service records are completed and maintained. Carry out diagnostics of vehicles and equipment both in the workshop and on site. Ensure spares & oils are booked to the correct job/equipment and liaise with the Workshop Manager & Yard/Stores Operative to ensure stock/spares are maintained, minimizing waste & over ordering. Utilise tools & equipment correctly & safely. Ensure spill kits are deployed where appropriate & are disposed of safely & effectively back at the yard.
