You will either be currently working as a Financial Controller, Financial Accountant, Finance Manager or have a proven track record of working in Practice managing a team. This is a broad and influential finance role, offering responsibility across management and statutory reporting, cash flow forecasting, audit, tax, capital expenditure and budgeting. You will work closely with the Head of Finance and wider operational teams, while also leading and developing a small finance team. The role would suit a technically strong accountant who enjoys taking ownership, improving processes and ensuring the business has accurate, timely and meaningful financial information. The Role As Financial Controller, your responsibilities will include: Taking ownership of weekly financial reporting across the business, ensuring figures are accurate, robust and delivered on time Driving improvements to financial reporting processes, including streamlining spreadsheets and improving data capture Developing trend and variance analysis across key areas of the P&L Taking responsibility for the month-end management accounts process Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are complete and accurate Reviewing the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements and providing clear explanations of material variances against budget and prior year Improving the consistency and accuracy between weekly flash reporting and final month-end results Taking ownership of the year-end statutory accounts process, from year-end close through to statutory accounts preparation Preparing the year-end audit file alongside the wider finance team and acting as the key point of contact for external auditors Overseeing statutory requirements relating to Corporation Tax, VAT and R&D tax Managing other statutory reporting requirements as required Producing and maintaining a detailed rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, incorporating EBITDA, working capital movements and forecast capital expenditure Analysing and explaining variances between forecast and actual cash flow Taking responsibility for the capital expenditure process, including reviewing and challenging investment proposals Monitoring capital expenditure against budget and supporting post-investment appraisal reviews Playing a key role in the six-month reforecasting and annual budgeting processes Leading, coaching and developing a team of five finance professionals The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone with a strong technical accounting background who is comfortable taking ownership of both management and statutory reporting. You will ideally have: ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification Strong management accounts and statutory reporting experience Experience of year-end accounts and working closely with external auditors Strong balance sheet reconciliation and financial control experience Good understanding of cash flow forecasting, budgeting and forecasting Experience of improving financial processes and reporting Strong Excel and financial systems skills Previous experience managing or developing finance team members The confidence to challenge information and work effectively with senior stakeholders A proactive, analytical and continuous-improvement mindset This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking for a broad Financial Controller position where they can combine technical accounting, financial control, team leadership and process improvement within an established business.
