An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Director to join a growing owner managed business in Lincoln. Working alongside the MD and owner of the business, you will not only be an exceptional accountant and hands-on with company finances but will also be commercially aware.

The role of the Finance Director has overall control and responsibility for all financial aspects of company strategy and is expected to analyse figures and implement recommendations based on these findings, with the most profitable outcomes. There will also be an operational responsibility and the ability to grow and develop with the business towards becoming an MD in the future.

Key responsibilities of the Finance Director:

  • Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a small finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Operational Management: Run the operations in the MD’s absence.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Strategic Contribution: Provide insightful financial analysis and recommendations to senior management, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Budgets & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, aligning financial plans with business objectives.

  • Internal Controls: Implement and maintain robust financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Taxation & Compliance: Oversee tax filings and ensure adherence to UK tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate with external auditors to ensure smooth year-end audits.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Support senior management with financial projects, system improvements, and business initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills for the Finance Director:

  • Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in an operational Financial Controller/Finance Director role or similar senior finance position.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop others.
  • Excellent financial analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Solid understanding of UK tax regulations, including VAT, corporation tax, and PAYE.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • Ambitious mindset, with the drive to grow into a Finance Director role.
  • Experience with financial systems implementation or upgrades.
  • Knowledge of payroll and pension schemes.
