Benenden School is seeking a skilled and versatile Theatre / Events Technician with experience in technical production, including lighting, sound and stage operations. Benenden is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading independent schools, recognised not only for its academic excellence but also for the quality and breadth of its events programme. Alongside its internal programme, the School operates a successful commercial events arm, Hemsted Park, which welcomes paying audiences to a diverse calendar of performances and experiences hosted across a range of distinctive venues:
- The Benenden Theatre, a 293‑seat traditional theatre and a small studio theatre
- The Centenary Hall, a 700‑seat multi‑use concert hall
- A recital hall for audiences of up to 100 guests
- The Victorian Rose Garden and wider parkland, a 250‑acre site for outdoor performances
In this post you will be part of a two‑person team, supporting the Drama and Dance department while working independently to support Hemsted Park and the wider School needs.
You will have hands‑on experience in set construction, along with a strong understanding of theatre lighting design, AV equipment and rigging. A high level of expertise in delivering live sound for performances is essential, including PA system configuration, setup and live mixing for music events. Experience in QLab is also essential, along with solid experience in programming ETC/EOC consoles.
Benenden School offers employees’ pension contribution, meals provided free of charge whilst on duty, free on‑site parking, and use of the school’s leisure facilities, including a fitness gym and swimming pool, when available.
The post‑holder will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children with whom they come into contact. They must ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. This appointment will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks.
