The role

Benenden School has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and inspirational Housemistress or Housemaster to lead our Sixth Form boarding houses.

Benenden has approximately 200 pupils in the Sixth Form, most of whom board in one of four Sixth Form Houses. Collectively the Houses form a Sixth Form Centre known as Founders. This role offers the chance to play a central part in the academic and pastoral welfare of our students.

Working closely with the other Housemistresses and Masters as part of a supportive and collaborative team, you will ensure that all houses operate to the same high standards and act as a key link between pupils, parents and the school. You will also work clearly with the Deputy Head Pastoral and the Headmistress to develop and enhance all aspects of the boarding programme.

We are seeking a proactive individual with previous experience in a boarding house and a strong understanding of the National Minimum Standards for Boarding. Excellent communication, IT and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside a genuine commitment to boarding school life and the flexibility it requires.

If our values resonate with you and you would relish the opportunity to contribute to a busy and selective girls’ boarding school community, we would be delighted to welcome you to our boarding team.

Fo informal enquiries about the role, please contact Charlotte van der Westhuizen, Deputy Head Pastoral, on cvdw@benenden.school

At Benenden we are passionate about education in its broadest sense. We are a boarding school with exceptional facilities and are committed, through our Complete Education, that every student will leave at the end of the Sixth Form full of compassion and confidence to fulfil their ambition, embrace challenge and make a difference.

As an exceptional School, we want to attract, retain and develop diverse talent at all levels so that our pupils feel and understand the power and depth of a diverse community. This means recruiting from the widest possible pool of talent, removing barriers that can prevent people from showing their full potential, and fostering a fully inclusive environment which maximises collaboration and empowers everyone.

Benenden offers its own generous pay structure, responsibility allowances and benefits. Staff are provided with meals whilst on duty. The school’s leisure facilities, including wonderful grounds, a fitness gym and swimming pool are also available for staff to use.

There is also a three-bedroom flat available for this role.

Completed applications should be received by 9:00am on Friday 30th January 2026.

Interviews to be held on the 3rd February (First Round) and 9th February 2026 (Second Round).

Benenden School is committed to equal opportunities and equal pay for all employees. Whilst Benenden isn’t accredited to the Living Wage Foundation, we do look to the Living Wage for guidance and our starting pay is currently in line with this.
