Compliance Officer (9-Month Fixed Term Contract)
Location: York (Hybrid working, 2 days a week in the office)
Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday
Salary: 52,500 per annum (Pro rata)
We're looking for an experienced Compliance Officer to join us on a 9-month fixed-term contract in a newly created role. Created to provide additional capacity while the team supports a number of business-wide projects, this is an opportunity to make an immediate impact within a fast-paced and collaborative environment. We're ideally looking for someone who can join us as soon as possible following the interview process, although we'll happily accommodate a reasonable notice period for the right candidate.
The role combines two key areas of responsibility. You'll provide practical, risk-based advice to the business, supporting colleagues and projects across the organisation, while also taking ownership of core compliance activities including monitoring, regulatory support, policy maintenance and reporting.
We're looking for a pragmatic compliance professional with strong experience in an FCA-regulated environment and a solid working knowledge of ICOBS. Previous experience within general insurance is highly desirable. You'll be confident providing trusted advice to stakeholders, whilst also being hands-on and happy to roll up your sleeves to deliver monitoring and oversight activities.
You'll be joining a small, experienced team and will have the autonomy to make a real difference from day one. Support will be there when needed, but we're looking for someone who can quickly build credibility, work independently, and hit the ground running.
What youll be doing
- Providing day-to-day compliance advice and guidance to colleagues, supporting business activities, projects and change initiatives.
- Monitoring regulatory developments and supporting the implementation of required changes across the business.
- Reviewing financial promotions, customer communications, documentation and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Delivering compliance monitoring, controls testing, thematic reviews and file sampling in line with the Compliance Monitoring Plan, documenting findings and tracking actions through to completion.
- Supporting risk assessments, control reviews and wider compliance assurance activities.
- Producing compliance reports, management information and governance reporting for management committees and forums.
- Building effective stakeholder relationships, identifying opportunities to strengthen compliance processes and controls, and helping to deliver good customer outcomes.
Skills and experience
- Experience working as a Compliance Manager, Compliance Officer, Compliance Advisor, Senior Compliance Advisor, Risk & Compliance Officer, or in a similar compliance role within an FCA-regulated financial services environment. Experience within general insurance is desirable.
- Strong understanding of FCA regulations, principles and best practice, with a practical and risk-based approach to compliance.
- Experience conducting compliance monitoring, controls testing, quality assurance, audit activities or other assurance-based reviews.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements, assess risks and communicate findings clearly through reports and stakeholder discussions.
- Ability to build effective working relationships, influence stakeholders and work collaboratively across the business.
- Self-motivated, highly organised and able to manage competing priorities while working independently. ICA qualification (or working towards one) would be advantageous.
