About the role

Ecclesiastical Insurance, who are proudly part of Benefact Group, are looking for a Marine Leisure Portfolio Underwriter to join us on a 6 month Outside IR35 contract on a remote basis. As Portfolio Underwriter you will lead the profitable development and strategic oversight of our new Marine Leisure account, playing a key role in supporting the delivery of the UKGI Plan.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the independent oversight and performance management of a Marine Leisure portfolio under delegated authority arrangements.
  • Deliver data-driven portfolio analysis and reporting, including development of dashboards and KPI frameworks to monitor performance, profitability, and exposure.
  • Provide strategic recommendations on portfolio optimisation, identifying risks and opportunities and advising senior stakeholders on corrective and growth actions.
  • Establish and maintain effective governance and oversight frameworks for MGA relationships, including performance reviews, audit protocols, and reporting structures.
  • Conduct independent review of underwriting practices, ensuring compliance with delegated authority agreements, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Produce recommendations for underwriting appetite, pricing strategies, product design, and policy wordings based on analytical insights and market developments.
  • Collaborate with pricing, finance, and actuarial functions to inform pricing reviews, reserving inputs, and financial performance evaluation.
  • Perform audit analysis and remediation planning, including identifying root causes and implementing improvement actions to enhance underwriting quality and outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and advisory support to stakeholders, acting as a specialist in Marine Leisure insurance and delegated authority business.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments, delivering actionable insight to support business planning and proposition development.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of the Marine Leisure product proposition, ensuring alignment with customer value, market demand, and commercial objectives.
  • Support stakeholder engagement across brokers, partners, and business units by providing subject matter expertise and insight‑led recommendations.

What you'll need to have

  • Deep technical underwriting knowledge, ideally in Marine or Specialty Lines.
  • Proven experience in portfolio management or underwriting within a delegated authority or MGA environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks in insurance.
  • Practical experience of the ability to quickly implement new initiatives.
  • The ability to build and manage co‑operative and productive relationships.

  • Experience of launching or managing new insurance products.
