To join a team offering a comprehensive residential service for young people with learning disabilities and associated challenging behaviour aged between 8-18 years. Our aim being to ensure the physical, social, emotional care and development of the young people at The Banyan Tree. No two days are ever the same, sometimes they may be challenging but they will always be positive and rewarding.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To join a team of residential care staff ensuring that safe and appropriate care practices are always maintained.
  • To support the management team in all aspects of the home’s operation, whilst maintaining positive childcare practice, in keeping with the aims and objectives of the home.
  • To provide a safe, warm, and supportive environment to our residents.
  • To maintain a regular recording system in connection with each young person, be involved in the implementation of care plans and assist in the publication of reports when required.
  • To attend review and planning meetings when required.
  • To assist with the process of development, implementation, and review of service policy.
  • To undertake delegated household duties such as cooking, cleaning, gardening and promote and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • To participate in the general activities of the home such as cycling, swimming, walking, playing games and to use any personal skills you may have to maximise opportunity for each resident.
  • To attend regular supervision sessions, staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • To accept responsibility for such monies as may be required in the carrying out of your duties.
  • To administer medication to children as required and complete all related paperwork and records.
  • To undertake sleeping in duties as required.
  • To comply with the policies, procedures, and practice of the home and to respond to emergencies which may arise within the service.
  • To provide a positive role model for colleagues and the young people resident.
  • To deal with telephone enquiries and undertake administrative duties as required, including logbooks, daily information sheets, accident book, incident forms etc.
  • Maintain case file records, including details of assessment plans, decisions, visits and the implementation and evaluation of action about the care plan.
  • To foster and encourage, wherever appropriate contact between residents and their families.
  • To maintain good liaison and co‑operate with external agencies, e.g.: social workers, consultant staff and others concerned with the welfare of the individual residents.
  • To develop a responsible attitude with residents with regard to the fabric, furnishings, equipment, supplies and services in/o to the home and to support them in all domestic aspects of both their own personal space and communal areas of the house.
  • To demonstrate both sensitivity and appropriate assertiveness, whilst working in a pressured environment with groups of diverse residents and staff.
  • Carry out the duties of the post in a mature and responsible manner, seeking and receiving support as necessary.
  • To physically intervene if a resident’s behaviour is dangerous to others or themselves, in accordance with the procedural guidance of the home and relevant legislation.
  • To participate in the construction and implementation of care plans for individual children and attend reviews, case conferences and planning meetings etc., when required.
  • To be a key worker and provide specific children with regular key work sessions.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Manager.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Qualifications are essential, i.e., Level 3 in Residential Child Care or equivalent. Or a willingness to undertake training within 12 months of commencement of employment.
  • At least two years’ experience relevant to residential care within the last five years.
