About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Jewellery Diploma Tutor (CAD) to join our dedicated teaching team on a 6-month fixed term contract (with the possibility of extension or a permanent role depending on business needs). The ideal candidate will have strong technical experience in jewellery CAD (including software such as Rhino and Illustrator), alongside a solid understanding of traditional jewellery manufacturing and design processes. As a Diploma Tutor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the learning journey of our students. You will deliver inspiring lessons, provide academic and pastoral support, assess student work, and help maintain the high standards of excellence for which the Academy is known.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities

  • Undertake a CAD teaching program using Rhino to Diploma learners at the Academy.
  • Undertake the teaching of Jewellery Manufacture and Design units to Diploma learners at the Academy.
  • Undertake planned delivery and provide feedback and guidance to learners, ensuring high success rates.
  • Produce lesson plans, support materials and other teaching related materials as required.
  • Complete assessment of learner work to set IQA deadlines.
  • Monitor progress and attendance, and maintain appropriate records whilst offering support to learners.
  • Undertake general course management responsibilities including admissions and placement support through learner interviews.
  • Ensure lessons, delivery and assessments meet with the standards set by awarding bodies, prime contractors and other organisations that monitor the Academy.
  • Ensure learners follow the policies provided to them via the Academy’s VLE Canvas.

Behaviour and Safety

  • Ensure the learners abide by health and safety rules by inducting learners and demonstrating the correct use of equipment, keeping health and safety rules in mind throughout lessons.
  • Keep up to date with Safeguarding and Prevent, and other declarations when required.
  • Monitor equality and diversity ensuring learners feel safe in the Academy and receive equal opportunities.
  • Be a positive role model for the learners, demonstrating consistently a positive attitude, values and behaviour, which are expected of learners, including health and safety.

Professional Development

  • Act as a role model, mentor or consultant to colleagues as appropriate and encourage collaboration, cooperation and teamwork.
  • Engage in regular standardisation meetings and training to review the quality of the teaching and learning provision in line with the quality strategy.
  • Maintain a professional level of subject expertise by being aware of relevant industrial and technological developments in the field.
  • Take part in regular training weeks and training sessions to enable continuous personal and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 qualifications in both Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalent).
  • Relevant qualifications in CAD.
  • Relevant teaching and assessing, IV qualifications (or willingness to work towards) and commitment to complete further CPD or teacher training qualifications if required.
  • Awareness of the regulatory framework for FE academic awards and quality standards.

Experience

  • Some teaching experience, particularly in the areas of CAD.
  • Experience using Rhino in a jewellery design context.
  • Experience of teamwork with strong team working skills.
  • Desirable: to be a practising jeweller with strong links to art or the jewellery industry and demonstrable evidence of practice.
  • Innovative approach to course coordination, teaching, learning or professional practice to support excellent teaching and inclusivity.
  • Effective resource management and prioritisation to achieve long term objectives.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritise workload.

Communication

  • Proactive and able to effectively support a high performing team of tutors.
  • Suggest practical solutions to new or unique problems.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing, adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way.
  • Contribute to improving or adapting provision to enhance the student experience or customer service.

Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity

  • Experience of promoting Equality and Diversity as well as Safeguarding (where appropriate).
  • Able to manage Safeguarding issues as appropriate to the role.
  • Complete Safeguarding training.
