We are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Technician to join a high-quality residential development in Sheffield City Centre on an initial six-month fixed-term contract. This is a hands-on and varied role where you will take responsibility for day-to-day maintenance and repairs across residential apartments and communal areas, helping to ensure the building continues to be maintained to an excellent standard.
We are particularly interested in speaking with people who have previous property or residential maintenance experience and who are confident carrying out a broad range of practical repairs themselves. If you are someone who enjoys problem solving, can turn your hand to a variety of maintenance tasks and takes pride in completing work properly, this could be a fantastic opportunity.
Working as part of the on-site team, you will be responsible for responding to maintenance requirements throughout the development, completing repairs where possible and coordinating specialist contractors where necessary. Your responsibilities will include:
- Responding to day-to-day maintenance requests across residential apartments and communal areas.
- Diagnosing faults and completing appropriate repairs.
- Carrying out general property maintenance including basic joinery, carpentry, painting and decorating.
- Undertaking minor plumbing and electrical repairs where your experience and competency allows.
- Diagnosing and supporting repairs to domestic appliances and white goods.
- Ensuring maintenance requests are completed efficiently and within agreed timescales.
- Keeping residents informed of progress and taking ownership of maintenance issues through to completion.
- Conducting regular checks of apartments, communal areas, plant rooms and wider building facilities.
- Supporting planned preventative maintenance activity.
- Identifying maintenance issues before they develop into larger problems.
- Carrying out apartment inspections and identifying works required.
- Completing maintenance and repair work between tenancies to ensure apartments are ready for incoming residents.
- Supporting painting, decorating and general remedial works during apartment turnarounds.
- Maintaining appropriate levels of tools, equipment, consumables and maintenance supplies.
- Liaising with external contractors where specialist work is required.
- Overseeing contractors working on site and ensuring completed work meets the required standard.
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance work and completed repairs.
- Supporting health and safety and compliance requirements across the development.
We are looking for someone with strong practical maintenance skills and previous experience within a property, residential or facilities environment. You will be comfortable working independently, prioritising your own workload and finding practical solutions to problems as they arise. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience within a Maintenance Technician, Property Maintenance, Handyperson, Facilities Maintenance or similar practical role.
- Good all-round property maintenance and repair experience.
- The confidence to diagnose faults and identify the most appropriate solution.
- Practical experience of general repairs, decorating, joinery or similar maintenance work.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.

- A proactive approach and the confidence to work independently.
- Good communication skills and a friendly, professional approach.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in completing work to a high standard.
- An understanding of health and safety within a property or maintenance environment.
- A genuine commitment to providing excellent service to residents.
The following would be particularly advantageous:
- Previous residential property maintenance experience.
- Experience working within Build-to-Rent, residential property, student accommodation, hotels or another large residential environment.
- Electrical skills or an electrical qualification.
- Plumbing experience.
- Carpentry or joinery skills.
- Experience repairing or diagnosing faults with domestic appliances and white goods.
- Experience working with planned preventative maintenance schedules.
- Previous responsibility for managing contractors.
- Health & Safety or IOSH training.
You certainly don't need to be qualified in every trade. We are looking for someone with strong general maintenance experience who knows what they can confidently repair themselves and when a specialist contractor is required.
You will be working within a modern residential development where maintaining the quality and appearance of both the apartments and shared spaces is extremely important. Alongside the practical elements of the position, this is also a customer-facing role. Residents will often approach you directly about maintenance issues, so being approachable, helpful and comfortable communicating with different people will be just as important as your technical skills. This is a busy role with plenty of variety and would suit somebody who enjoys being active, solving practical problems and seeing the immediate results of their work. If you are an experienced Maintenance Technician or property maintenance professional looking for your next opportunity, we would love to hear from you.
