As Principal Analyst – Lithium, you will have responsibility for managing our lithium analysis. Your core responsibilities will include overseeing Benchmark’s lithium models and producing Benchmark’s quarterly and monthly Lithium Forecast reports alongside managing the work of junior team members. This will involve in-depth research to understand supply, demand, costs and prices across lithium supply chains.

In addition, you will support our consultancy assignments, working on bespoke advisory projects for a cross-section of industry stakeholders, including leading mining companies, automotive OEMs, financial institutions and government organisations. You will work alongside our consultants to develop investment and financial models.

This will require regular communication with the analyst team, direct communication with industry players, and the collection/evaluation of public data.

It is key that you are a motivated individual with an eagerness to understand the global energy storage supply chain and are driven to learn more and extend the company’s knowledge and product base. It is important that you are self-motivated and can manage your time to achieve specific tasks and assignments.

As part of your role, you will be given the opportunity to travel the world, build your personal brand as a recognised global authority on the battery supply chain, interact with senior management from leading stakeholders across the supply chain, and regularly speak to, and be quoted by, leading mainstream media organisations.

In your role, you will directly report to the Product Director - Lithium.

Key responsibilities:

  • Building networks with the global lithium sector.
  • Management of Benchmark’s lithium analysis and models.
  • Producing Benchmark’s quarterly and monthly Lithium Forecast reports.
  • Overseeing and supporting delivery of consulting and advisory engagements.
  • Mentoring junior team members within the lithium team.
  • Working with the wider team to develop new business and expand our client base.
  • Building Benchmark’s brand and breadth of supply chain research.
  • Speaking at industry events and forums.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an analytical role in the lithium or battery metals sector.
  • Management capabilities: able to oversee and coordinate research among the analyst team.
  • Analytical mindset, with a drive to deepen personal and company knowledge of the industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint (ideally advanced). Experience with Thinkcell, VBA, SQL, Python and AI tools would be beneficial.
  • Naturally organised and self-motivated individual.
  • Good communication skills: able to interact with the internal team and external clients.
  • Strong knowledge of lithium market fundamentals.
  • Comfortable working within the start-up culture and mentality of Team Benchmark, which can require continuing to operate and undertake day-to-day duties while travelling across the world.
