Join Benchmark as an Assistant Portfolio Manager and build hands‑on experience across portfolio management, investment analysis, and client delivery. You will support Portfolio Managers and Investment Directors in managing client portfolios, ensuring they remain aligned to agreed mandates, risk profiles, and regulatory requirements. This role suits someone early in their investment career who wants exposure to portfolio construction, investment decision‑making, and client interaction in a growing, technology‑enabled business.

What you'll do:

  • Support the management of client portfolios in line with agreed mandates and risk profiles
  • Assist with portfolio recommendations, rebalancing activity, and investment proposals
  • Prepare trade files for execution by the Operations team
  • Monitor portfolio performance, asset allocation, and ongoing suitability
  • Contribute to fund and model portfolio analysis, including attribution and reporting for clients and the Investment Committee
  • Work closely with Investment Analysts and stay aligned to the recommended buy list
  • Support client servicing activity, including meeting preparation and follow‑ups
  • Review transactions, track outstanding trades, and resolve discrepancies
  • Attend investment meetings and fund manager updates, feeding insight back into the team
  • Work with paraplanners and client support teams to deliver a consistent client experience
  • Assist with written investment commentary and insight pieces
  • Contribute to Investment Committee discussions and decision‑making
  • Support governance activity, policy implementation, and wider business projects

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need:

  • Degree or equivalent, ideally in finance, economics, or a related field
  • Progress towards a professional qualification such as IMC, CISI or CFA is beneficial
  • Previous experience in investment, wealth management or financial planning is helpful but not required
  • Strong numerical and analytical capability
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with investment tools such as Morningstar Direct or Refinitiv is helpful
  • Exposure to Power BI or Tableau is an advantage
  • Strong interest in financial markets and portfolio management
  • High attention to detail and strong organisation skills
  • Clear communication style, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Team-focused mindset with the confidence to take ownership

You’ll be based at the Benchmark Head Office, within our Broadlands Business Campus near Horsham in West Sussex but will need to be present across our other offices, including the main Schroders headquarters in London. It has high standards and international reputation, without being in the city: a big, countryside campus means life will feel a little different. We support our offices by using cutting edge software and hardware and our spacious campus facilities mean there’s a great working environment for the team. With an on‑site restaurant, coffee shop and gym, our campus has much to offer. And commuters can relax on our dedicated regular shuttle bus to and from Horsham’s main line train station.
