We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Practitioner (SP) to join our Kinship Team within the Fostering Service. This pivotal role involves providing expert support and guidance to kinship carers, ensuring that children placed within kinship arrangements receive the highest standards of care and safeguarding. The Senior Practitioner will lead on assessments, develop care plans, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate positive outcomes for children and families. This position requires a compassionate yet confident professional who can manage complex cases, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continuous improvement of fostering practices. The successful candidate will be integral in advocating for the needs of children in kinship care, ensuring that statutory requirements are met, and promoting family stability and well-being. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex kinship fostering assessments and approvals in line with statutory guidance.
  • Provide expert advice, support, and supervision to kinship carers to promote child welfare and safeguarding.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with social workers, health professionals, and other agencies to develop and implement effective care plans.
  • Monitor and review kinship placements to ensure compliance with agency policies and legal requirements.
  • Mentor, support, and provide professional development opportunities for junior practitioners within the team.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training and resources specific to kinship care carers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and prepare detailed reports for case conferences and court proceedings.
  • Advocate for the needs of children in kinship placements, ensuring their voices are heard in all decision-making processes.
  • Participate in continuous service improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Kinship Team.

Requirements

  • Social Work qualification (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent) with current HCPC registration.
  • Substantial experience working within fostering services, with a focus on kinship care preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to fostering and child protection.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cases and deliver high-quality assessments and reports.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience supporting and developing staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building positive relationships with children, families, and professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
