Good Afternoon, I am currently representing Wokingham Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience.
The Building Control Officer delivers a key statutory function, ensuring that all building work within the Council’s jurisdiction complies with Building Regulations and associated legislation. The role involves assessing plans and undertaking site inspections across a range of developments, making informed technical decisions to ensure buildings meet required standards for health, safety, sustainability and accessibility.
The postholder is also responsible for identifying and addressing non-compliance, including initiating enforcement action and responding to dangerous structures to protect public safety. The service operates within a competitive and income-generating environment, requiring delivery of a high-quality, efficient and customer-focused service that maintains market share against private sector providers.
The role contributes to service reputation, regulatory compliance and financial sustainability, with all officers required to achieve and maintain Registered Building Inspector status through the Building Safety Regulator, ensuring ongoing professional competence in a highly regulated and safety-critical field.
