Overview
Good Afternoon, I am currently representing Hackney Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate. The role is based in London with hybrid working options and the location postal code is E8 1DY.
We are looking for a Tenancy Investigation Officer.
Responsibilities
- As a Tenancy Investigator, protect the Council\’s social housing stock for those in genuine need by providing a comprehensive investigation service into tenancy fraud within the borough.
 - Conduct investigations by managing a caseload, including interviews, taking witness statements, and liaising with the police.
 - Gather evidence from various systems and sources to build robust cases for legal action, such as recovering unlawfully sublet properties or assessing Right to Buy applications.
 - Prepare high-quality case reports and progress updates for senior management and stakeholders; maintain meticulous investigation records.
 - Collaborate with staff across the Council, social housing providers, and external partners; assist in developing and delivering fraud awareness training for housing staff.
 - Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation (PACE, RIPA, DPA, HRA) and with Council policies and best practice guidelines.
 
Qualifications
- A recognised qualification in counter fraud studies (e.g., Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist) and/or significant practical experience in social housing tenancy fraud or comparable investigation work.
 - Demonstrable experience in a counter-fraud or investigative role, preferably within the public sector; strong working knowledge of the legislative framework governing investigations, including PACE, CPIA, RIPA, and the Fraud Act.
