Good Afternoon, I am currently representing Slough Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience. We are looking for an Early Intervention Officer this role will be based at: Chalvey Community Hub, Ladbrooke Road, Slough, SL1 2SR, 2 days in office.
The right candidate will:
- Work proactively with households who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, identifying practical solutions at the earliest opportunity to help them remain in their current accommodation or secure a suitable alternative.
- Undertake timely housing assessments and develop effective Personalised Housing Plans.
- Negotiate with private landlords, letting agents, family members and other parties to prevent homelessness.
- Support households affected by rent arrears, affordability difficulties, relationship breakdown or the loss of private rented accommodation.
- Identify suitable private rented housing and help applicants access deposits, rent in advance and other financial assistance.
- Work closely with internal services and partner agencies to address barriers to sustaining accommodation.
- Maintain accurate case records and progress cases within statutory timescales.
- Deliver measurable prevention and relief outcomes, reducing the need for temporary accommodation.
We require the following:
- The successful candidate must have recent experience of homelessness prevention or housing options work, a good working knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Strong record of achieving positive outcomes through negotiation and effective case management. Experience of private rented sector access and tenancy sustainment is highly desirable.
- Candidates must have at least one year's experience in carrying out assessments under Part VII.
