Social Worker – Duty & Assessment Team (DAAT) Northamptonshire (Countywide) £225 Per Day Contract Opportunity Full Time Immediate Start Available

Are you an experienced Social Worker looking for a supportive and fast-paced frontline safeguarding service? We’re recruiting for a Social Worker to join the Duty & Assessment Team (DAAT) supporting children and families across Northamptonshire. This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable service with experienced leadership, manageable caseloads, and long-term support to establish a localised working area.

About the Team

The Duty and Assessment Team (DAAT) is the frontline point of contact for safeguarding concerns involving children and young people. Following initial referrals through MASH, cases move into DAAT where the focus is on delivering timely assessments, safeguarding interventions and ensuring children receive support at the earliest opportunity. The service consists of 6 established teams, each made up of:

  • Team Manager
  • Advanced Practitioner
  • Social Workers
  • Newly Qualified Social Workers
  • Family Support Workers

This is a well-supported environment with a strong permanent management structure and experienced locum leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) cases
  • Undertake assessments and safeguarding interventions
  • Complete statutory visits within required timescales
  • Work closely with children, families and partner agencies
  • Assess risk and identify appropriate interventions
  • Produce clear, evidence-based reports and records
  • Contribute to effective safeguarding decision-making
  • Promote positive outcomes for children and families

Service Expectations

  • Child in Need (CIN): Visits completed within 5 days
  • Child Protection (CP): Visits completed within 24 hours (same day where required)
  • Fast-paced service focused on ensuring children are seen promptly and effectively

Working Arrangements

  • Operates on a 6-week duty cycle
  • During duty week, attendance in office is required for the full week
  • Candidates must be local and available for visits
  • Longer-term aim to allocate workers to a dedicated geographical area (e.g. Northampton Central, Corby, Daventry)

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker
  • Social Work England registration
  • Experience within Children’s Social Care / Assessment / Safeguarding
  • Strong assessment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced frontline service
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
