Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a Highways Engineer to work with a local authority in Manchester on an initial six month temporary assignment. This is a full time role working 35 hours per week (Mon - Fri) on a hybrid basis. The role sits within the Highways Service, supporting the delivery of traffic regulation and highway engineering schemes.

Main Duties

  • Prepare and process Traffic Regulation Orders in line with legislation and council procedures
  • Design highway and TRO related schemes including signage and road markings
  • Manage statutory consultations and liaise with residents, businesses and elected members
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including risk registers, cost monitoring and progress reporting
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and health and safety requirements
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to support scheme delivery
  • Provide technical advice and respond to highways and TRO related enquiries
  • Support delivery of work packages within agreed time, cost and quality constraints
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of highways and TRO processes

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working as a Highways Engineer within a local authority or similar environment
  • Strong knowledge of Traffic Regulation Orders and relevant highway legislation
  • Experience producing highway designs using CAD and TRO software such as Parkmap
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
  • Strong communication skills with experience of stakeholder engagement
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, highways or transport related discipline
