Good Afternoon, I am currently representing Barnet Council, who are offering a permanent position for the right candidate.

Role Details

  • Location: 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, London, NW9 4EW. Expected to work in the office at least 2–3 days per week.
  • Salary offered: £48,003.00.

Responsibilities

  • Plan individual audit assignments in accordance with the Annual Audit Plan, with due regard to client availability.
  • Undertake a mixture of audit assignments unsupervised, including compliance reviews and systems‑based reviews of Council management systems.
  • Take ownership of and conduct follow‑up reviews in accordance with the Internal Audit follow‑up procedure.
  • Ensure that assignments are conducted with a risk‑based approach, in accordance with the professional standards defined by Global Internal Audit Standards and the Audit Manual.
  • Pro‑actively maintain up‑to‑date accounting knowledge and audit expertise to provide help, support and guidance to services, ensuring compliance with statutory and non‑statutory obligations, legislation, regulations and current business processes and procedures.
  • Comply with the Continuing Professional Development requirements of the appropriate accounting institute.
  • Complete assignments within the allocated budget and report to the Head of Internal Audit where potential variations may arise.

Qualifications

  • Hold a relevant qualification such as CIPFA, AAT, IIA or another CCAB‑recognised qualification, along with a degree or equivalent.
  • Bring sound knowledge of auditing principles and standards, and demonstrable experience of conducting internal audits within a public sector setting.
  • Have a strong understanding of local government finance and services, and the ability to apply risk‑based auditing in practice.
