Good Morning, I am currently representing Southwark Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience.

The role will be based at: 2 days office based SE1 2QH.

The right candidate will:

  • Support childcare lawyers and senior childcare lawyers and Head of Team
  • Draft applications and issue court proceedings
  • Redact documents
  • Manage bundles and ensure they are updated in accordance with court directions and upcoming hearings
  • Liaise with court, upload documents and bundles to FPL and other case management systems
  • File and serve documents on court and on parties
  • Obtain and instruct counsel
  • Hold a caseload of section 7 and 37 and general advice matters with minimal supervision
  • Diarise court hearings and meetings
  • Assist lawyer in drafting letters of instructions to experts
  • Assist in the preparation of cases for court, tribunals etc. and attend court where necessary
  • Respond to legal questions arising from the work of the team including, where necessary, lawyers and/or counsel

We require the following:

  • Must have experience of working as a legal assistant/paralegal
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with childcare law dealing with public law care proceedings and private law contact/residence disputes
