Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) – Pembrokeshire County Council

Location: County Hall, Freemans Way, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, SA61 1TP

Rate: £205 per day

Hours: Full-time – 37 hours per week

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Contract Length: 3 months

Pembrokeshire County Council is looking for an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dedicated team, ensuring high-quality, child-focused planning and protection for looked-after children and those at risk.

This is a pivotal role that blends quality assurance, multi-agency collaboration, and statutory safeguarding to deliver meaningful, lasting outcomes for young people.

About the Role

As the Independent Reviewing Officer, you will:

  • Lead and chair statutory reviews for children and young people in care, ensuring timely, high-quality planning.
  • Ensure the voice of the child is central in all decisions, plans, and reviews.
  • Coordinate multi-agency child protection conferences in your role as Child Protection Chair.
  • Provide robust quality assurance, ensuring care and protection plans meet legal, safeguarding, and best-practice standards.
  • Work closely with social workers, families, and professionals to support and challenge plans that affect vulnerable children.
  • Monitor and track outcomes, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement in service delivery.

What We\\\’re Looking For

  • A qualified social worker (Social Work England registered or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in child protection and looked after children reviews.
  • Strong understanding of current legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Confident, independent decision-maker with excellent communication and chairing skills.
  • Experience working within multi-agency environments.
