Senior Buyer

Join Bellway\’s Durham Division, located in Houghton‑le‑Spring, as a Senior Buyer in the Commercial department.

Role

Reporting to the Commercial Director Designate, the Senior Buyer manages daily procurement costs, ensures compliance with group purchasing arrangements, collects rebates, and sets and monitors materials budgets to deliver the business unit output in a timely, efficient and cost‑effective manner.

Responsibilities

• Ensure competitive procurement of materials and plant according to project specifications.
• Administer and assist with monitoring of Material Rebate claims.
• Monitor supplier performance.
• Prepare Contract Material Budget.
• Monitor and report on material budget as contract progresses.
• Issue tender enquiries and analyse quotations.
• Prepare material take‑off from contract drawings.
• Create material schedules on Excel for supplier and site use.
• Generate computer‑generated Purchase Orders.
• Issue orders to support waste management systems on sites.
• Compile and submit statistical analysis as required.

Experience & Qualifications

• Previously held a buying role with knowledge of take‑offs, schedules and budgets.
• Current CSCS card or equivalent.
• GCSE English and Mathematics grade A‑C/4+ or equivalent.

Skills & Aptitude

• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• IT literate, proficient in MS Word and Excel and able to adapt to new systems.
• Ability to work to deadlines under pressure.
• Effective communication with stakeholders at all levels.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Working Conditions

• Office‑based role, with travel within the Division area.
• Travel to development sites as required.
• Willingness to be flexible with day‑to‑day duties and hours.
• Subject to a basic DBS and financial pre‑employment checks.
