There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Group Head Office Division is looking to recruit a Group Environmental Manager. Due to the nature of this role, we are recruiting nationwide.

The Group Environmental Manager will support, train, and monitor construction sites and offices to ensure adherence to environmental policies, procedures, and legislation. This role involves accident investigation feedback, audits, training, and liaising with enforcement authorities to promote an environmentally compliant working environment across the organisation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide expert advice on environmental matters across the organisation
  • Collaborate with construction, technical, and commercial teams to develop pre-construction HSE plans, surface water management plans, and material management plans
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and internal policies
  • Oversee and assess the performance of external HSE consultants
  • Attend and contribute to HSE meetings
  • Liaise with enforcement authorities (e.g., EA, SEPA and NRW) and represent the company with external groups such as HBF and MHBG
  • Identify and recommend any necessary environmental training; deliver in-house training when required
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, providing reports and liaising with authorities
  • Drive knowledge sharing and learning within the health and safety teams to improve practices
  • Support the Group Health, Safety and Environment Director with ad-hoc projects

Experience, Qualifications and Skills

Experience

  • Previous experience as an Environmental Advisor or Manager is preferred, ideally within a construction or house-building environment

Qualifications and training

  • Level 5 or 6 NVQ qualification or HND, Foundation Degree or Bachelor’s in Environmental Management or related fields
  • Membership to ISEP or working towards
  • Full UK driving licence required

Skills and aptitude

  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations
  • IT literate with proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Good planning and organizational abilities
  • Strong inter-departmental communication and collaboration
  • Integrity and the ability to build positive relationships
  • Future-focused with a drive for continuous improvement and change
  • Ability to set and uphold high professional standards
  • Ability to communicate with people on various levels from customers to contractors

Working Conditions

  • Willingness to travel nationally for the role
  • Willing to be flexible in respect to day-to-day duties and hours worked
