We’re excited to be recruiting for a Street Trading and Market Inspector to support the smooth and lawful running of markets and street trading across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong enforcement, compliance, and operational experience within local authority or market environments.
As part of the Market & Town Centres team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring markets and street trading operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with legislation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Enforcing all relevant Acts, Regulations, and Bye-Laws relating to markets and street trading
- Investigating trading practices affecting market operations, licences, and tenancies
- Preparing reports, statements, correspondence, statistics, and maintaining accurate work records
- Ensuring fees (rent, refuse, lighting, car park, equipment hire, etc.) are collected and deposited correctly
- Collecting market statistics and trade data from appropriate bodies and associations
- Liaising with other council departments, authorities, and external stakeholders
- Attending meetings and training sessions, and supporting training for staff and trainees
- Monitoring contract cleaning staff and reporting any service deficiencies
