About Us: At Bells of Lazonby, baking has been at the heart of what we do since 1946. Still independently owned by the Bell family, we combine craft skills with large-scale production to create products we’re proud of, and we know the secret ingredient behind our success is our people. We have two bakeries on site in Lazonby: a conventional bakery and a dedicated free-from bakery, from which we supply many high street coffee shops and major supermarkets with sweet bakery treats, such as cakes, traybakes, pies and tarts.
Food Process Technologist - The Role: We are looking for an NPD Process Technologist (or an individual with baking or food production experience) to join our team and help bring new ideas from the development kitchen to full scale production. This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role where curiosity, problem-solving and a passion for quality really matter. Being able to use Microsoft system packages, write reports and stay on plan, are key to the success of this role. Food Process Technologist - What You’ll Be Doing: As the link between concept development and bakery production, you will play a key part in ensuring new products transition smoothly from trial to launch. Working closely with colleagues across NPD, Technical, Production, Sales, Marketing and Purchasing, you will:
- Lead and support factory trials across our bakery sites
- Establish and refine process methods for new products
- Record, evaluate and communicate trial outcomes clearly to cross-functional teams
- Check final recipes and production methods before launch
- Support first productions and troubleshoot issues online
- Collect and assess data to support quality, packaging and standards
- Work with customers during on-site trials ensuring their expectations are met delivering high customer service
- Help drive continuous improvement and process innovation
This is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the product, engaging with teams at all levels, and turning ideas into successful, high-quality bakes that can be produced consistently.
Food Process Technologist - You:
- A genuine passion for food and bakery products
- Practical bakery knowledge or food product development experience
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset
- Be able to manage their own projects and meet deadlines
- Confidence working both independently and collaboratively
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Have flexibility to work hours that align with trial requirements
- Eligibility to work in the UK (This role is not applicable for current or future Skilled Worker VISA applications)
