Account Director – Technical & Safety

This is a senior leadership role combining technical safety authority and engineering accountability with full Account Director responsibility for a high‑risk, critical environment Facilities Management contract.

  • Technical Leadership
  • Provide senior technical leadership across all mechanical, electrical, controls, and life safety systems within a critical environment.

Set engineering standards aligned to statutory compliance, manufacturer guidance, and industry best practice.

Act as the senior technical authority for safe systems of work, isolation management, switching protocols, and engineering change control.

  • Ensure engineering teams operate within clearly defined authorisation structures, with formal competency frameworks and documented evidence of appointment.

Oversee technical risk assessments and ensure that maintenance and operational activity does not compromise resilience or compliance.

  • Maintenance & Operational Delivery
  • Ensure statutory, mandatory, and critical PPM regimes are delivered without compromise, with enhanced scrutiny applied to high‑consequence systems.

Oversee reactive and emergency works with clear prioritisation based on business impact and safety risk.

  • Ensure CAFM systems accurately reflect asset criticality, redundancy strategy, and maintenance history.

Drive structured reliability‑centred and condition‑based maintenance approaches to reduce failure risk and unplanned downtime.

  • Compliance, Safety & Assurance
  • Hold senior accountability for technical compliance across electrical, mechanical, pressure systems, water hygiene, fire safety, F‑Gas, and specialist plant.

Ensure adherence to UK legislation including Ea WR, PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, COSHH, DSEAR, HSG274/ACo P L8, and fire safety legislation.

  • Lead internal and external audits, ensure robust documentation control, oversee RAMS approval and permit‑to‑work systems, and ensure corrective actions are closed effectively.

Maintain full traceability of compliance evidence suitable for regulatory scrutiny.

  • Critical Systems & Risk Management
  • Ensure resilience of critical infrastructure including HV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, chillers, boilers, clean utilities, BMS, and life safety systems.

Oversee redundancy strategies (N+1, 2N, etc.) and ensure testing regimes validate system resilience.

  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis for technical failures.

Ensure structured post‑incident reviews, lessons learned implementation, and risk register updates.

Maintain documented contingency and emergency response plans.

  • Asset Management & Lifecycle Planning
  • Maintain accurate asset data reflecting condition, criticality, redundancy, and remaining useful life.

Develop risk‑weighted lifecycle replacement plans and capital investment strategies.

  • Align lifecycle modelling with business continuity planning, ensuring critical plant replacement is strategically sequenced to avoid operational disruption.

  • Drive optimisation of plant performance through advanced analytics, BMS tuning, and performance monitoring.

Use data‑led insight to identify operational inefficiencies, failure precursors, and control strategy weaknesses.

  • Implement predictive and condition‑based maintenance aligned to ESG objectives, carbon reduction targets, and operational resilience goals.

  • Technically qualified in an appropriate discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Process).
  • Budgetary management experience at senior level.
  • ILM / CMI level 5.
  • AI fluency & learning mindset.

Work from Bristol (BS35 4GG) Monday to Friday 08:30‑17:00. Remote and flexible working is available where business needs allow.
