Role Overview
As Head of Fire Engineering, you will lead the Fire Engineering service line nationally, overseeing technical delivery, commercial performance and strategic growth. You will be responsible for ensuring that fire engineering services are delivered to the highest technical and regulatory standards while maintaining profitability, resource efficiency and client satisfaction. This role combines technical authority with operational and commercial leadership.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the Fire Engineering team, including Principal Engineers, Associate Directors and Senior Fire Engineers.
- Own the technical governance framework for Fire Engineering outputs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards.
- Ensure consistent application of Approved Document B, BS 7974 performance-based frameworks, PAS 9980 (where applicable), Building Safety Act requirements, relevant British Standards and sector guidance.
- Oversee technical peer review structures and sign‑off hierarchies.
- Drive commercial performance including utilisation, revenue targets and pipeline conversion.
- Support bid strategy, fee proposals and major framework submissions.
- Manage team capacity planning and recruitment in line with projected growth.
- Lead the development of fire modelling capability and performance-based engineering services.
- Act as senior escalation point for complex regulatory matters or client disputes.
- Support cross‑division collaboration with Fire Risk, FRAEW and Compliance teams.
- Maintain professional indemnity risk awareness and ensure engineering defensibility.
- Represent Bellrock at senior client meetings, industry forums and technical events where required.
Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status through a recognised professional engineering institution (essential).
- Extensive experience in fire engineering consultancy, including leadership of complex, high‑rise and performance-based projects.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing team utilisation and financial performance.
- Deep understanding of UK fire legislation, Building Regulations and performance-based design methodologies.
- Experience leading and mentoring senior technical professionals.
- Demonstrable experience in governance, quality control and engineering sign‑off structures.
- Strong understanding of professional indemnity exposure and risk mitigation in consultancy environments.
