Overview
We are a long-established and growing food manufacturing business within the agri-food sector, supplying porridge oats and oat-based breakfast cereals to leading retailers across the UK, Ireland, and international markets. Due to continued growth driven by demand for healthy, sustainable, and innovative plant-based foods, we are seeking a Shift Manager to join our operations team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced supervisor to take the next step in their career within food manufacturing.
Role Purpose
The Shift Manager is responsible for leading, motivating, and developing a team of operatives to deliver production targets safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining full compliance with food safety and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor production processes to ensure full compliance with food safety legislation and quality control standards.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve production issues promptly to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
- Train, mentor, and support new and existing team members, ensuring adherence to safety, hygiene, and production procedures.
- Take ownership of achieving daily production targets while maintaining consistent product quality and efficiency.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Quality Control, Maintenance, and Despatch teams to ensure smooth and coordinated operations.
The Person
- Proven experience in a supervisory or shift leadership role within a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to food safety and quality standards.
- Effective problem‑solving and decision‑making skills in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross‑functionally.
- Experience implementing lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment or process issues.
