Lucy Legal LLP is a modern criminal practice with two centuries of heritage, combining the rigour of established legal tradition with contemporary approaches to criminal defence and prosecution work. We've built a reputation for nuanced, intelligent advocacy across the full spectrum of criminal matters—from serious crime and financial offences to regulatory investigations and appellate work. This is a firm where institutional knowledge meets innovation, and where solicitors are trusted to develop real client relationships rather than process cases.
We're seeking a Criminal Solicitor with 2+ years' post-qualification experience to join our expanding Redhill office. This is an opportunity to work on substantive, high-impact casework with genuine autonomy. You'll take ownership of files from investigation through trial, building expertise in areas that genuinely interest you, whether that's serious organised crime, youth justice, financial crime, or something else entirely. The role sits within a close-knit team that values intellectual rigour and practical problem-solving—you won't be shuffled between cases or treated as interchangeable resource.
Your day-to-day work will involve advising clients at police station and in custody, preparing cases for trial, liaising with counsel and expert witnesses, and managing complex disclosure exercises. You'll conduct client interviews that require both empathy and tactical thinking, draft detailed advices on evidence and procedure, and represent clients at magistrates' courts and Crown Court hearings. You'll also take on special operations work where appropriate, and contribute to the firm's growing appellate practice. This isn't a role where you'll be confined to file management—you'll be in court regularly, visible to clients, and building the advocacy skills that define a good criminal solicitor.
Career progression here is deliberate and transparent. We promote from within, and solicitors who demonstrate commitment and capability move into specialist roles, team leadership, and partnership consideration. You'll have genuine mentorship from experienced practitioners, access to continuing professional development, and the flexibility of hybrid working in Redhill, allowing you to balance court commitments with focused office time.
