Smith Partnership Solicitors is a forward-thinking regional practice with five offices across the East Midlands, built on the conviction that exceptional legal work flows from a culture where people genuinely want to be.
We've grown steadily by combining technical excellence with a workplace where collaboration matters as much as billable hours, and where your development as a lawyer is treated as seriously as client outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Commercial Conveyancing team in Derby as a Commercial Property Lawyer with 4+ years' post-qualification experience.
You'll be stepping into a practice area that sits at the heart of business transactions across the region—advising on acquisitions, disposals, and leasehold matters for corporate clients, property developers, and investors.
This role offers the chance to deepen your expertise in a specialist area whilst working alongside experienced practitioners who are genuinely invested in your progression.
The hybrid arrangement means you'll have the flexibility to maintain focus on complex transactional work whilst remaining connected to a supportive office environment.
Your day-to-day will centre on managing a substantial caseload of commercial property matters from instruction through completion.
You'll conduct thorough due diligence reviews, identify and negotiate key legal issues with counterparties' solicitors, advise clients on title complications and contractual implications, and manage the technical aspects of completion and post-completion formalities.
You'll be expected to lead your own files with confidence, make sound judgments about risk and strategy, and communicate clearly with clients—often corporate entities who value precision and pragmatism.
Depending on the transaction profile on your desk, you might be advising a growing tech company on an office acquisition one week, then working through the due diligence on a multi‑unit retail investment the next.
We believe in progression that's earned through genuine capability, not simply tenure.
As you develop in the role, you'll take on increasingly complex transactions, mentor junior colleagues, and have genuine scope to shape how the team approaches client work.
There's a clear pathway towards senior lawyer responsibilities and, for those inclined, partnership consideration further down the line.
We're the kind of firm where your ambitions are taken seriously, and where you're supported with training, exposure to high-quality work, and honest feedback.
