We're hiring a Server Build Engineer who will be responsible for the day-to-day server builds of the customer environment, ensuring the infrastructure and all its components are built and configured as expected. The Server Build Engineer will analyse build requests and specifications and convert to virtual and physical server builds in-line with process. Contribute to the standard templates and strive towards full automation.
The role requires server builds and design consultation on VMware, physical, and cloud services of Windows, Linux and appliances.
Responsibilities- Customer service
- Pick up and take ownership of customer requests, complying to the relevant processes
- Analyse build requests and specifications and convert to virtual and physical server builds in-line with process
- Meet or exceed the customer SLA
- Effective communication to the customer and within the team
- Thorough understanding of IT infrastructure & IT ideologies and the interaction between physical and virtual layers
- Proactively identifying improvements for the infrastructure configuration
- Operating systems and software configuration
- Multiple operating systems exposure, in-depth experience of at least one
- In-depth experience in server builds and virtualisation/hypervisor software
- Developing understanding and experience of cloud computing administration
- Develop scripts and processes to aid day-to-day activities, automating and streamlining wherever possible
- Gain or hold relevant accreditations (e.g. Microsoft MCSA, Azure Administrator)
- In-depth knowledge of the potential threats to IT environments from internal and external influences, weak adherence to security protocols and human error
- Complete understanding of the reasons underpinning change control, adhering to all required processes
- Support the team by creating change requests, adhering to customer best practice
- Implement and execute changes, as required and per process
- Maintain asset documentation with additions, decommissions and updates to ensure that the scope of support for our customers is understood, accurate and kept up to date
- Good communication skills, both written and spoken, able to articulate ideas or proposals clearly
- Capable of working in a team or individually, as circumstances dictate
- Able to follow procedures, policy, instruction and guidance
- A troubleshooting mentality to tackle complex problems
