The Role

We are seeking a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team in London.

This is a full-time, permanent role based primarily in our office, with regular site visits as required.

You will support the Commercial Manager and Project Quantity Surveyors in the financial and contractual management of projects, including cladding remediation, industrial new-build, and refurbishment works.

This role is ideal for someone with early experience in quantity surveying who is looking to develop their skills within a well-established and supportive construction business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, management, and monitoring of project budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts.
  • Support with the preparation of interim valuations and applications for payment.
  • Help assess and value variations and assist with negotiating change orders.
  • Contribute to the preparation of final accounts under the supervision of the Project QS or Commercial Manager.
  • Assist in the procurement of subcontractors, including preparing tender documents and comparing quotations.
  • Support the administration of subcontractor contracts, including measurement of works and processing payments.
  • Maintain accurate cost and value records, ensuring timely reporting for internal review.
  • Support the commercial team in identifying and managing project risks and opportunities.
  • Liaise with site teams to ensure accurate cost capture and effective financial control.
  • Contribute to business improvement initiatives and the implementation of best practice in cost management.
  • Who We’re Looking For
  • Some previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within a main contractor or construction environment.
  • Good understanding of construction processes and standard forms of contract (JCT and/or NEC preferred).
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Confident using MS Excel, Word, and cost management or estimating software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, professional approach.
  • Degree (or working towards a degree) in Quantity Surveying or a construction-related discipline.
  • Eagerness to learn, develop, and work towards professional qualifications (RICS or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a business-insured vehicle preferred.
