We are seeking a Specification Writer/ Bid Support Design Manager to join our Design/ Bid team. The position will be a full-time, permanent contract and based primarily within one of our offices, providing design support to our preconstruction and bid teams principally on cladding remediation and refurbishment projects. Reporting to the Head of Design, you will be responsible for overseeing the design specifications of bid documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documents and develop project fact sheets, wall type specifications, and design resource plans for accurate pricing and compliance.
- Confirm metal plate requirements on projects for our buying department.
- Confirm any client clarifications for post-tender stage queries.
- Provide information for tender quality submissions and tender interviews, as required.
- Assist the estimating department with queries from consultants and subcontractors on project-specific enquiries.
- Collaborate with bid teams, estimators, and external designers to meet tender deadlines and align specifications with industry standards and regulations.
- Produce scope documents for intrusive surveys, design services, and consultant engagement, providing feedback on fee proposals and quality assurance requirements.
- Provide Design Resource Plan information to be included within Prelims.
- Engage with façade and fire safety manufacturers, coordinate CPD events, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and building regulations.
- Manage project data using Procore, raise and respond to RFIs, monitor scope and variations, and identify and mitigate design risks effectively.
Who We’re Looking For
- Construction industry experience, ideally in architecture with a focus on structures and cladding.
- Strong technical knowledge, proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and familiarity with document management systems.
- Degree in a construction-related discipline.
- Effective under pressure, with excellent communication, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Flexible, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Persistent, task-driven, and professional, with strong collaboration, persuasive skills, and commercial acumen.
- Thorough understanding of Scottish & English building regulations.
- UK driving license, with access to a business-insured vehicle preferred.
