Freelance Spanish TeacherFace-to-face evening classes in Colchester

BeLingual is looking for an experienced, passionate, warm, and engaging freelance Spanish teacher to deliver our face-to-face Spanish to Connect courses for adult learners in Colchester.

At BeLingual, we believe learning a language should help people communicate with greater confidence, build meaningful connections, and participate more fully in real life.

Our programmes bring together practical Spanish, soft skills, and multicultural awareness within a supportive, interactive learning experience. We are looking for someone who not only teaches the language well, but also understands how to create a classroom where adults feel comfortable speaking, making mistakes, and progressing together.

The Opportunity

  • Contract type: Freelance / independent contractor
  • Location: Lexden/Stanway area, Colchester
  • Delivery: Face-to-face
  • Schedule: Three evening classes per week for 12 weeks (with the option to take on more groups each new term)
  • Start date: Mid-October 2026 or Mid-January 2027
  • Class length: 1 hour and 30 minutes (please arrive a few minutes early to set up the classroom)
  • Fee/Compensation: £35 per class (equivalent to £23.33/hour for each 1.5-hour session)
  • Learners: Small groups of adult students (up to 10)

Training and structured class materials will be provided, including presentations and supporting resources for each session.

We’re Looking for Someone Who

  • Speaks Spanish at a native or native-equivalent level.
  • Has a strong command of English.
  • Holds a degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
  • Has experience teaching, tutoring, or facilitating learning.
  • Feels confident using classroom technology (projectors, TVs, laptops).
  • Is confident supporting adult learners at different stages of their language journey.
  • Creates a warm, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Is reliable, organised, and comfortable working independently.
  • Can encourage participation and help learners speak without fear of making mistakes.
  • Understands that effective communication goes beyond grammar and vocabulary.
  • Is happy to complete a brief student feedback form after each session.
  • Can prepare one personalised learner progress report per programme, complete with detailed feedback and recommendations.
  • Is happy to bring one simple Latin American or Spanish dish or treat per course as part of the cultural learning experience (assigned budget provided).
  • Can provide at least one reference from a previous employer.
  • Holds Right to Work

Our Teaching Approach

  • Spanish to Connect is built around:
  • Practical, real-life communication
  • Active speaking and interaction
  • Confidence over perfection
  • Soft-skills development
  • Cultural awareness
  • Small-group learning
  • Meaningful human connection within the group
  • Cultural experiences through food, music, stories, and shared traditions

This is not a traditional grammar-led course, and our students are not studying to pass a formal language exam. Learners are encouraged to use Spanish meaningfully from day one, developing the confidence, awareness, and communication skills needed to connect in real-world situations.

Teacher Requirements

As an independent contractor, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing their own tax and National Insurance obligations
  • Issuing invoices for completed teaching services
  • Maintaining appropriate professional standards
  • Confirming availability for the agreed course schedule
  • Committing to the agreed class times without unexcused absences or rescheduling
  • Preparing the classroom and AV equipment (projector/TV) prior to receiving students

There may be opportunities to continue delivering future courses, with new terms starting in January, April, and September each year.
