Appointment of Modern Foreign Languages Teacher
Appointment of MFL Teacher (French with an Additional Language) from January 2027.
Overview
Belhaven Hill School has a strong tradition of preparing children for Common Entrance and scholarships to leading senior schools. We are seeking an enthusiastic and accomplished Modern Foreign Languages teacher to inspire pupils in French and other languages, if possible.
Modern Foreign Languages are an important part of the curriculum at Belhaven. Pupils are encouraged to develop confidence in speaking and listening, alongside strong foundations in reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Lessons should be lively, engaging and ambitious, fostering both academic success and a genuine enthusiasm for languages and other cultures.
The successful candidate will teach French across the school, including preparing older pupils for Common Entrance. They will understand the demands of senior-school entrance examinations and be able to support pupils of differing abilities, from those requiring additional encouragement to potential scholarship candidates. Other languages may be introduced to develop interest.
As is characteristic of a thriving prep school, we are looking for someone who will contribute beyond their principal subject specialism. The successful candidate should be willing and able to teach elsewhere across the school, according to their experience and interests, and to play a full part in the broader academic, pastoral and co-curricular life of the school.
This is an exciting opportunity for an imaginative and energetic teacher to help shape and develop language teaching within a happy, busy and ambitious Scottish prep school. Set in beautiful grounds overlooking Belhaven Bay in East Lothian, Belhaven offers a wonderfully distinctive environment in which children, and their teachers, can flourish.
