As the Environment and Sustainability Officer, you will help Belfast International Airport meet its environmental and sustainability obligations and objectives by developing an environmental and sustainability compliance strategy that meets the airport and VINCI corporate objectives and targets. You will provide environment, energy and sustainability management and support to all elements of the airport, including third party businesses that impact on the delivery of environment management and sustainability, ensuring legal compliance through the design, implementation, and continual development of environmental, energy and sustainability management processes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical environmental advice to all aspects of the airport business as a competent environment professional, in line with the requirements of the relevant environment regulations.
- Design, implement and monitor environment processes and systems to ensure legal compliance.
- Lead and influence continual improvement in environmental management.
- Assist in the management of internal and external environment and sustainability-based committees, attending as required.
- Review the existing policies and procedures against current legislation and regulation, to define any opportunities for improvement.
- Support the plan for achieving environmental compliance, best practice and VINCI corporate targets.
- Research environmental best practices within and outside the VINCI airports group.
- Ensure where practicable, correct best practice environmental standards and procedures are formulated, implemented and maintained.
- Develop, maintain and facilitate a Company environment and risk training programme for management and employees, thereby providing advice, guidance and information to educate BIA departments on their environmental obligations, objectives, and how these can be met.
- Assist in environment incident investigations, reporting and analysis, advising the Compliance Manager on major environmental risk identification and mitigation.
- Assist with the development, delivery and co-ordination of BIA's commitment to take action to address the climate emergency, reduce carbon emissions and work towards environmental sustainability.
- Engage with BIA departments and relevant partners and stakeholders in relation to promoting best practice and positive change, delivering specialist support and advice on identifying energy savings opportunities and implementing energy efficient solutions, to help BIA achieve its target of reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
- Track and record environmental and sustainability metrics for internal and external reporting (Demeter; Airport Carbon Accreditation; BITC Climate Action Pledge; ESOS SECR etc).
- Maintain the ISO 14001 EMS and ISO 50001 EnMS to maintain continual improvement, regularly conducting internal audits to ensure both Company and regulatory requirements including those of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency are being met.
- Establish and champion an environment audit programme for third parties operating on the Company's premises, to identify and control associated risks to the company.
- Participate in environment and sustainability development projects, supporting the assessment of new equipment and services.
- Ensure that all Statutory and Company regulations regarding finance, health and safety, fire and security are followed to protect airport users, staff members and the business interests of the Company.
- Assist in the event of an emergency, as directed by the Operations Duty Management team, and as detailed in the Emergency Orders.
- Promote and proactively engage with the company vision and values: Integrity, Inclusiveness, Leadership, Teamwork, Safety & Security, Communication and Positivity, through the Performance and Development Programme.
