What You’ll Be Doing
- Take the lead on preparing RFQ packages (in cooperation with Grid & ICP Engineering) and management of the subsequent tender process for grid and ICP connection works.
- Interact with Grid & ICP subcontractors to obtain relevant quotes based on the grid connection offers for projects under tender.
- Monitor and evaluate bid performance metrics and understand market position and pricing, make suggestions for policy and process improvements.
- Interrogate subcontractor offers for missing scope, deviations and cost improvements.
- Build up the cost estimate, ensure all costs are properly validated and adequate risks provisions are considered for projects.
- Establish a realistic target cost at early stage of the tender and challenge any costs which do not compare with target cost to avoid both over and under estimation.
- Expand the base of Grid connection & ICP subcontractors for solar PV and battery storage projects.
- Develop a supplier database for key equipment.
- Collaborate with global procurement team and colleagues to ensure sharing of key supplier and market information whilst ensuring consistency of approach in procurement strategies across the Belectric Group.
- Expanding the portfolio of Grid & ICP subcontractors and suppliers.
- Participate in sales calls with customers, subcontractors and OEMs.
- Estimate Costs for Grid Connection of Belectric Power Plants.
- Support the engineering and project delivery teams to improve the strategy for the delivery of interconnection works and battery storage project delivery.
- Responsibility for creation and adoption of processes for tendering of Grid & ICP works.
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive experience with Grid / ICP contractors and ICP-related works – including: HV substations, Grid connections infrastructure, Export cables, Protection and control systems.
- At least 5 years experience in a procurement, commercial management or supply chain role within the utility-scale solar/PV EPC, Battery Storage Energy Systems, Power Infrastructure or utilities/grid connection project sectors.
- Strong knowledge of UK grid connection processes and ICP frameworks (IDNOs, DNOs, and National Grid ESO interactions).
- Degree in electrical engineering, power engineering, supply chain management or degree in procurement, commercial management with strong power sector experience.
- Expertise in procurement and commercial negotiation for electrical infrastructure (11kV–132kV).
- Ability to manage supplier relationships with ICP contractors, cable suppliers, switchgear manufacturers, including civil subcontracting scope of works.
- Strong understanding of contestable vs non-contestable works in UK grid connections.
- Excellent contract negotiation and tender evaluation skills (technical + commercial) for HV electrical works.
- Experience developing and managing RFPs, RFQs, and tender clarifications.
- Strong cost control and budget management skills for multi-million-pound infrastructure packages.
- Capability to assess technical compliance of supplier proposals alongside engineering teams.
- Skilled in risk identification and mitigation in supply chains and grid connection works.
