An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Site Agent / Project Engineer to join a major infrastructure project in St Albans. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading project delivery, managing supply chain partners, driving programme performance, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and commercial control throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with key alliance partners, clients, designers, and subcontractors.
  • Organise and manage systems of work within the allocated discipline, ensuring efficient delivery through the relevant supply chain.
  • Develop project programmes and budget forecasts alongside senior project leadership, monitoring productivity and programme performance against targets.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, contractual obligations, and account measurement in collaboration with the commercial team.
  • Ensure labour, plant, and material resources are specified, procured, and available in a timely manner to support programme delivery.
  • Monitor planned versus actual resource utilisation and contribute to weekly and monthly project reporting.
  • Produce and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Take ownership of project quality assurance and quality control processes, including successful project handover to the client.
  • Notify Quality Assurance teams of any non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Work closely with Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Teams to manage change events, early warnings, risks, opportunities, and commercial issues.
  • Develop mitigation and recovery plans where project risks threaten programme or budget performance.
  • Manage project budgets, including regular Bottom-Up Forecasting and change management activities.
  • Ensure comprehensive records are maintained for additional works, resources utilised, delivery tickets, and project costs.
  • Champion a positive health, safety, and wellbeing culture across all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily site records, including variations, subcontractor attendance, and key stakeholder communications.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop Site Engineers and Assistant Engineers, ensuring strong engineering control and accurate project records.
  • Review performance, training, and development requirements of direct reports on a regular basis.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, industry regulations, company policies, and project procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Civil Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent)
  • SMSTS Certification
  • Relevant CSCS Card
  • CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting Operations)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methodologies
  • Extensive technical knowledge of civil engineering and construction best practices
  • Working knowledge of construction contract law and forms of contract
  • Excellent planning, budgeting, and forecasting experience
  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations
