Role Overview
The Test Manager is responsible for leading the full test definition and verification strategy for complex engineering programmes. They own the test approach from bid stage through to project delivery, ensuring that all verification activities meet Customer requirements and align with the organisation's Business Management System. They provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and set the standard for best-practice testing. They define the IVV Strategy across multi-segment systems - including satellite, control, ground, facilities, and support environments - and oversee the execution of all test and verification activities to cost, time, and quality targets. This role demands a highly experienced professional capable of producing bid-ready test artefacts and then driving Test & Verification throughout the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Verification & Validation Leadership - Uses appropriate tools and techniques to verify and validate deliverables against BMS standards and specification requirements.
- Engineering Improvement - Maintains awareness of industry developments and collaborates with Engineering Management to drive continuous improvement.
- Test Strategy Ownership - Manages the creation of test and verification strategies and plans that minimise risk and confirm solution validity early and cost-effectively.
- Supplier Assurance - Ensures subcontractor deliverables fully meet contracted requirements.
- System Reference Model Guidance - Advises on the creation and use of the System Reference Model and other test environments.
- Requirements Traceability - Owns the Verification Cross Reference Index, ensuring full traceability of test and verification status against requirements.
- Defect Management - Leads the defect management process for all Test & Verification activities.
- End-to-End Assurance - Ensures end-to-end testing complies with all project requirements and demonstrates system compliance to the Authority.
- Delivery Accountability - Ensures all test aspects of the project are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Skills & Experience
- STEM Degree - Degree in a science or engineering discipline (highly desirable).
- ISTQB Advanced Test Manager - Formal testing qualification (highly desirable).
- Project Management Certification - e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner (highly desirable).
- Project Planning Tools - Formal training in planning tools (highly desirable).
- Satellite Communications Experience - Experience in the satellite communications domain (highly desirable).
