Materials Engineer

Location: Castle Donington – Flexible hybrid basis

Contract Type: Outside IR35 Contract

An innovative engineering organisation is seeking a Materials Engineer to support the development of advanced turbomachinery products. This is a contract role offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a dynamic, hybrid working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select, characterise, test, and qualify materials to meet mechanical, thermal, and lifing requirements.
  • Support product design with materials expertise and contribute to design studies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to optimise manufacturing techniques (e.g. heat treatment, coatings).
  • Validate manufacturing methods and resolve material-related anomalies.
  • Prepare technical reports and specifications for materials testing and inspection.
  • Contribute to materials development for next-generation components.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • Significant experience in materials engineering within a relevant industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge, ideally with turbomachinery experience.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Flexible, proactive, and comfortable working outside the traditional scope of a materials engineer.
