The Role
Our client is seeking a Finance Assistant to support the planning, control, and financial steering of a UK‑based operational entity. This role will work closely with the Finance Director and Financial Controller, providing analysis, insight, and day‑to‑day financial support to enable informed decision‑making at management level. You will play a key role in monitoring costs, forecasting, reporting, and ensuring financial accuracy across operational activities. This is a fully onsite role and would suit someone who enjoys working closely with senior finance stakeholders in a structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Financial Controller with operational cost analysis and control
- Maintain cost, revenue, cashflow, and resource forecasts
- Track actual costs and revenues, reviewing allocations and explaining variances
- Assist with payroll accounting, billing, invoicing, and treasury processes
- Support month‑end activities including accruals, allocations, and reporting
- Work with operational teams to forecast resources and cost impacts
- Liaise with procurement to ensure accurate cost recognition and commitments
- Produce cost centre reports, cashflow forecasts, and meaningful financial analysis
- Support risk and opportunity tracking
- Provide ad‑hoc financial reporting to internal stakeholders and external bodies
- Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and controls
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a finance support or assistant role
- Strong understanding of debits, credits, cashflow, and Profit & Loss
- Experience producing cost centre reports and financial forecasts
- Comfortable working with coding for procurement and cost allocation
- Confident working closely with senior finance stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Experience within aerospace, defence, MOD, or similarly regulated environments is desirable
Qualifications
- AAT, CIMA (part‑qualified), or similar would be advantageous but not essential
