Belcan seeks an experienced Senior Product Engineer for a 12-month Inside IR35 contract in Hertfordshire. The role involves leading engineering work packages for the development, validation, and industrialisation of smart motor and power generation technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions aligned with cost and weight targets.
- Oversee and approve design solutions; support design reviews per client governance and product introduction processes.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and assurance reports.
- Drive risk management and continuous improvement through design investigations, root cause analysis, and lessons learned.
- Author, review, and approve technical documentation for engineering and through-life support.
- Provide training, mentoring, and leadership to engineering personnel.
- Deliver fit-for-purpose designs with a DFA/DFM approach and ‘Right First Time’ philosophy.
- Ensure stakeholder satisfaction through clear communication and timely reporting.
- Meet project milestones and budgets; maintain compliance with design assurance and procedural standards.
- Achieve agreed KPIs consistently.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience delivering work packages and supervising engineering teams.
- Mechanical design expertise with rotating equipment (shafts, bearings, seals, structures).
- Strong understanding of engineering materials and production methods.
- Proficiency in electromechanical design using 3D CAD tools (CATIA/NX) and PLM systems (Teamcentre, Windchill, SAP).
- Competent in MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Experience with high-speed power generation and motor technologies.
- Basic knowledge of mechatronics and electronics.
