Belcan Workforce Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Process Safety Engineer to support a major international refining and petrochemical development project, based in Reading. This is a significant long-term programme involving large-scale downstream, petrochemical and upgrading facilities, offering the opportunity to influence safety strategy on one of the most complex energy projects in the sector.
As the Process Safety Engineer, you will take a leading role in shaping safe, compliant, and cost-efficient design across pre-FEED and FEED stages. You'll engage with multidisciplinary engineering teams, review contractor deliverables, and drive key safety studies including HAZOP, PHA, QRA and consequence modelling. Your expertise will help guide technical decisions, strengthen engineering standards, and ensure project safety philosophies are consistently applied.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and support process safety studies including HAZOPs, PHAs, risk assessments, and dispersion modelling.
- Review design documentation for compliance with project and industry safety standards.
- Provide expert input to safety philosophies, specifications, and engineering procedures.
- Oversee contractor performance and contribute to technical evaluations and design reviews.
- Support the development and optimisation of project safety standards.
- 15+ years' experience in process safety within refining, petrochemicals or heavy oil processing.
- Strong background in risk assessment, fire protection, safety systems, and hazard identification.
- Experience working on large, integrated onshore energy facilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
Contract & Pay: 12 months, inside IR35 £52.97 - £71.74 PAYE £69.83 - £92.42 Umbrella
