We are currently recruiting for an experienced MEP Design Manager to join a leading engineering and construction business delivering a complex, high-profile project. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in managing Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) design activities throughout the delivery and commissioning phases of a technically challenging scheme.

Working within a live project environment, you will lead the coordination, development and control of MEP design solutions, ensuring compliance, buildability and alignment with programme, commercial and client requirements.

The Role

  • Provide technical leadership across all MEP disciplines, working closely with project teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • This position is overseeing a restricted facility, as such it is open to British nationals and those able to secure security clearance.
  • Leading and managing MEP design activities across a live construction environment.
  • Coordinating design consultants and specialist subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of design information.
  • Managing design change processes, including assessment of programme, cost and technical impacts.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, client specifications and engineering standards.
  • Driving value engineering initiatives while maintaining quality, performance and compliance.
  • Supporting construction teams by ensuring design solutions are practical, safe and fully buildable.
  • Leading MEP design input into commissioning, testing and handover activities.
  • Maintaining and managing design risk registers, identifying and mitigating project risks.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for all MEP design-related matters.
  • Monitoring design progress against programme milestones and project deliverables.
  • Collaborating with procurement and supply chain teams to align design solutions with delivery strategies.
  • Producing technical reports on design progress, risks, changes and commercial impacts.
  • Chairing and contributing to design reviews, coordination meetings and client presentations.
  • Managing consultant and subcontractor performance to ensure high standards of delivery.
  • Ensuring all design activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, project governance requirements and relevant legislation.

About You

  • Proven experience in an MEP Design Manager role within engineering, construction or major projects environments.
  • Strong experience managing MEP design throughout live project delivery and commissioning phases.
  • Experience working on complex, highly regulated or technically challenging projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Building Regulations, engineering standards and design assurance processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including management of design change and programme impacts.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to coordinate complex design packages across evolving project programmes.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong organisational and problem-solving capabilities.
