We are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Manager / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing business delivering low-carbon, decarbonisation and infrastructure projects. This is a standalone position, offering the opportunity to take full ownership of commercial and estimating activities across the entire project lifecycle. You will be a civils biased Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor / Civils Commercial Manager with proven experience of managing civil biased schemes / infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commercial function across multiple projects, ensuring strong commercial performance from tender stage through to final account.
- Promote and embed a safety-first culture across all project activities, ensuring compliance with company Health & Safety standards.
- Take ownership of contractual arrangements, identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities to maximise project performance.
- Develop, maintain and report on project Risk and Opportunity schedules, ensuring effective mitigation strategies are implemented.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and key stakeholders, leading negotiations on contract terms, valuations and final accounts.
- Support business planning, budgeting and contract reviews, providing accurate forecasting of costs, revenues and project outcomes.
- Manage the preparation and submission of applications for payment, ensuring contractual compliance and effective cash flow management.
- Ensure robust commercial governance through effective contract administration, record keeping and adherence to company procedures.
- Oversee subcontractor accounts and commercial performance, ensuring obligations are met and commercial objectives achieved.
- Monitor project performance and provide accurate commercial reporting to senior leadership.
- Lead estimating activities including preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs), supply chain engagement, assessment of supplier submissions and identification of scope gaps.
- Support procurement strategies and provide commercial input throughout project delivery.
- Review and manage contractual arrangements, ensuring compliance and effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, or significant industry experience.
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the civil engineering, infrastructure or construction sectors.
- Strong background delivering civil engineering, groundworks and wider construction projects.
- Experience working for a principal contractor.
- Ability to operate independently within a standalone commercial role, managing stakeholders and driving commercial processes with minimal supervision.
- Strong commercial and estimating expertise, including BoQ preparation, supply chain engagement, supplier return adjudication and scope gap analysis.
- Experience administering contracts and managing commercial governance and reporting processes.
- Demonstrable expertise in commercial risk management, subcontract management and financial control.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Experience within decarbonisation, low-carbon, energy transition or sustainability-focused projects is desirable.
- Understanding of project funding structures and commercial financing models would be beneficial.
