Senior Estimator – Marine Civil Engineering sought, UK wide (Scotland / Southwest albeit this is a national remote opportunity for a seasoned Marine Civils Estimator). A well-established Marine Civil Engineering Contractor is expanding nationally and is now seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead its estimating function across complex marine infrastructure projects throughout the UK. We are open to candidates based anywhere in the UK, including Scotland and cross-country applicants. The successful candidate will be expected to attend their Devon based office approximately once per month to maintain team collaboration and alignment. This is a senior leadership role requiring strong, hands-on marine civils estimating experience. Marine infrastructure expertise is essential.

You will take ownership of the estimating function for major marine civil engineering schemes including:

  • Ports and harbours
  • Piers and docks
  • Coastal defence projects
  • Marine piling operations
  • Dredging works
  • Breakwaters and associated marine infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of detailed and competitive cost estimates for marine infrastructure projects.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, scopes and contract documents to determine full resource requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive cost build-ups covering labour, materials, specialist marine plant, equipment and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and validate take-offs, production outputs and marine methodology allowances.
  • Ensure pricing reflects live market conditions, marine logistics constraints and project-specific risks.
  • Contribute to strategic pricing decisions and commercial positioning.
  • Review post-tender feedback to strengthen future bid accuracy.
  • Support preparation of tender-stage programmes in collaboration with planning teams.
  • Work alongside bid writers to ensure high-quality, compliant submissions.
  • Manage and oversee timely submission of compliant tender documents.
  • Liaise closely with engineering and operations to ensure constructability and programme alignment.
  • Support governance processes and pricing strategy discussions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with marine subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
  • Review and analyse subcontractor quotations for compliance, scope gaps and value.
  • Undertake site visits and engage with clients and supply chain partners to inform estimates.
  • Support and mentor estimators within the team, providing technical guidance and leadership.
  • Drive best practice in estimating methodology and structured risk assessment.
  • Promote collaboration across engineering, commercial, planning and business development teams.
  • Support innovation and the targeted use of AI within the estimating workflow.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience estimating within marine civil engineering projects (essential)
  • Proven hands-on expertise in marine infrastructure methodologies and plant utilisation
  • Strong understanding of dredging, piling, breakwaters, coastal defence or similar marine works
  • Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and NEC contract documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders under tight deadlines.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar (preferred but not essential).
