Preconstruction Manager – Building Services Engineering (M&E) sought, South Bristol / Somerset. National Contractor seeking further Preconstruction support with the addition of a mechanical or electrical (Building Services Engineering / M&E) Preconstruction Manager to their SW team.

The Opportunity

  • We are seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join a leading Building Services Engineering business operating across South Wales and Bristol / hybrid.
  • This is a key role within the regional preconstruction team, responsible for developing new business opportunities, managing client relationships, and leading the successful delivery of high-quality mechanical and electrical (M&E) tenders and proposals.
  • Working closely with clients, consultants, main contractors, estimating teams, and technical specialists, you will help secure profitable projects across a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, defence, industrial, infrastructure, and public sector developments.
  • The successful candidate will combine strong commercial awareness with a sound understanding of building services engineering and the preconstruction process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of mechanical and electrical building services opportunities throughout the South Wales and Bristol region.
  • Build strategic relationships with key clients, main contractors, consultants, developers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Identify, pursue, and convert new business opportunities within the Building Services and M&E sectors.
  • Lead and coordinate prequalification submissions, tender responses, presentations, and bid strategies.
  • Work closely with estimating, design, engineering, and operational teams to develop innovative and commercially competitive M&E solutions.
  • Support bid negotiations, value engineering exercises, and project handover activities.
  • Ensure proposals are aligned with client requirements, technical specifications, programme objectives, and commercial targets.
  • Maintain accurate CRM data, market intelligence, customer feedback, and opportunity tracking.
  • Monitor industry trends, procurement routes, and upcoming projects to support regional growth plans.

About You

  • We are looking for a commercially driven professional with experience in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical contracting, or technical construction environments.
  • You will ideally have experience in preconstruction, business development, bid management, estimating, or client relationship management within the Building Services, M&E, or wider construction sector.
  • A good understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems and project delivery.
  • Experience working with consultants, main contractors, developers, and end-user clients.
  • Strong knowledge of construction procurement and tendering processes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders and develop long-term client relationships.
  • A proactive and strategic approach to identifying and securing new opportunities.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and client engagements simultaneously.
