If you answered yes to all of these, we have a fantastic, permanent opportunity as a Waste Management Officer.
This is an exciting time to be joining the waste team, with key changes to waste and recycling service changes being introduced. This important role will allow you to apply your knowledge and skills to ensure that Sheffield residents receive high quality waste services and support the development and delivery of future service changes and improvements.
You will support the management of the 37 year Integrated Waste Management Contract with Veolia. This contract delivers waste and recycling services to all 260,000 households in the City, including waste and recycling bin collections, the provision of bring sites, five Household Waste Recycling Centres, the removal of abandoned vehicles, the provision of an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) plus many other waste related services.
The role will include assisting in the day to day running of the service through supporting the management of the waste contract. You will play an important role in monitoring contract performance and compliance. You will track legislation, research and understand waste management best practice including developing projects and strategies for managing Sheffield’s waste.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
