Central Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) team, Crisis Hub, Longley Centre, Sheffield, S5 7JT. The Central AMHP Team is a highly responsive, 24/7 service operating every day of the year, including public holidays, delivering critical statutory functions under the Mental Health Act (1983). Commissioned by Sheffield City Council, the service plays a vital role in ensuring that individuals are assessed lawfully, safely, and with their rights at the centre of all decision‑making.

Based at the Sheffield Health Partnership Trust Crisis Hub at the Longley Centre S5 7JT, the team benefits from strong, integrated working relationships with key partners including Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and South Yorkshire Police, enabling timely, coordinated responses in high‑risk and complex situations. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a well‑led, forward‑thinking AMHP service that is committed to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred practice.

The role is central to ensuring that Mental Health Act assessments are carried out promptly and proportionately, while also providing expert advice and guidance to multidisciplinary colleagues and stakeholders on the application of mental health law. As demand continues to grow, the service is evolving in line with the National AMHP Workforce Plan, with a clear focus on strengthening capacity, resilience, and responsiveness. This includes developing a sustainable staffing model that ensures consistent, seamless delivery across a 24‑hour rota.

We are seeking committed and experienced AMHPs to join our permanent casual pool, who can contribute flexibly across both standard and unsocial hours. Candidates must hold a relevant professional qualification (Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Psychology) and have successfully completed AMHP training.

You will play a key role in supporting the ongoing development and transformation of the Central AMHP Team, working collaboratively with colleagues, service users, carers, and partner agencies to uphold high standards of practice, performance, and safeguarding. You will bring demonstrable experience in Mental Health Act assessments, sound risk management skills, and the confidence to work autonomously in complex and often time‑critical situations.
